Thailand, Cambodia pledge to strengthen tourism ties
With relations between the two countries at a high point, Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to boost cooperation in tourism to bring more tourists to their markets.
In a meeting on Tuesday, Panyarak Poolthup, Thailand’s Ambassador to Cambodia, and Thong Kong, the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, discussed ways of attracting more tourists from third nations to their countries.
As a sign of their commitment to greater cooperation, the officials announced that three new border checkpoints will open soon along their shared border.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, Minister Khon highlighted the importance of working closely in tourism matters with Thailand, a country that welcomes more than 30 million international tourism every year.
“Thailand boasts a lot of direct air links with many regions of the world, including Europe, America, Oceania, Japan and South Korea. Therefore, this is a great opportunity for us to attract more tourists to our own market,” he said.
“Thailand has a lot of products and services to cater to the needs of tourists, so Cambodia can learn a lot from it,” he added.
Mr Panyarak, meanwhile, said that relations between both nations are now at an all-time high, including in political, economic and social matters.
