Indonesia – BI: E-money Transaction Reaches 64 Percent Growth in 2017
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – E-money has gained increasing popularity recently. The ease in use and the mandatory use in a number of places have made it soar dramatically.
“Based on Bank Indonesia (BI) Payment System Statistics, until Desember 2017 the number of e-money reached 90 million instruments,” as quoted from Bisnis.com on Saturday (17/2).
Such a number indicated a decline from 113 million in November. Nevertheless, compared to Desember 2016 with 51 million, the number actually doubled.
As far as transaction is concerned, the amount of transaction in Desember 2017 reached Rp11.5 trillion or it grew 64% compared to that of Desember 2016 reaching Rp 7.06 trillion.
Rapid growth is also evident in the number of e-money infrastructures. In Desember 2016, the number of reading machines was 374,861, yet in 2017 it jumped into 691,331.
The increase of the use of e-money is caused by the mandatory use of e-money on toll roads and the development of online transportation.
