Vietnam’s 50 most valuable brands valued at US$148 billion

The Hanoitimes – The enterprise value is up 5% from 2018, contributed by strong brands namely Viettel, Vinamilk, VNPT, Vinhomes.

A group of the 50 most valuable brands in Vietnam in 2019 post a combined enterprise value of US$148 billion, according to Brand Finance Vietnam Ranking.

In the list announced by London-based independent brand valuation and strategy consultancy Brand Finance Corp, the value rose 5% from that in the 2018 ranking.

Meanwhile, total brand value hit US$19 billion, up 24% on year, Managing Director of Brand Finance Asia-Pacific Samir Dixit said at the announcement of the top 50 in Hanoi on September 24.

The top 10 brands make up 68% of the top 50 with a total brand value of roughly US$12.88 billion while those in the top 11-20 group account for 17% with US$3.27 billion, the firms of the top 21-30 group with 9% and US$1.65 billion, respectively.

Of the firms in the ranking, telecommunication service providers (telecoms) take the lead with 38%, followed by food firms with 15%. Banks rank third with 11%, beverage companies 8%, real estate developers 7%, and retailers 5%.

The top 10 brands include Viettel, VNPT, Vinamilk, Vinhomes, Sabeco, MobiFone, VietinBank, Vinaphone, BIDV, and Petrolimex.

Brand Finance Vietnam Ranking is calculated basing on three major categories namely intangible value which is critical business value growth aspect, value which is critical brand success measurement (including brand strength index, brand royalty rate, forecast revenues, future prospects), and total enterprise value, Samir Dixit said at the event.

In terms of enterprise value, military-run Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) ranks first with US$4.32 billion, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) takes the second place with US$1.68 billion, Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) in the third place with US$1.61, followed by Vingroup’s subsidiary Vinhomes with US$1.27 billion, Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corp (Sabeco) with US$1.23 billion, MobiFone Corporation (MobiFone) with US$708 million, VietinBank with US$625 million, Vinaphone worth US$553 million, BIDV with US$450 million, and Petrolimex with US$447 million.

In terms of business strength index (BSI), BIDV takes the lead (AAA-), Vinamilk ranks second (AA+), followed by Vietcombank (AA+), VietinBank (AA+), and Vincom Retail (AA+).

According to Brand Finance, the brand valuation methodology calculates the values of the brands in its league tables using the Royalty Relief approach – a brand valuation method compliant with the industry standards set in ISO 10668.

This is the fifth Brand Finance Vietnam Ranking announced with an aim to honor the brand of the most valuable companies in Vietnam and make them recognizable in the market, bringing customers an over view of the country’s strongest brands, Samir Dixit told Hanoitimes.
