Vietnam: Quang Tri commits maximum supports for investors

The Hanoitimes – The central Quang Tri Province considers success of investors to be its own success so that it commits to create the most favorable conditions for investors, Nguyen Van Hung, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, said.
Quang Tri currently attracts 330 domestic and foreign investment projects with the total registered capital about VND69.52 trillion. Of these, 14 are foreign direct investment (FDI) projects worth over US$1 billion and 316 domestic investment projects totaling nearly VND68.496 trillion.
According to Nguyen Duc Chinh, Chairman of Quang Tri People’s Committee, the province has six advantages to attract investors.
Firstly, he said, Quang Tri has an important geographical position as it is the intersection of the north-south and east-west economic axes. The location also owns roads, railways and waterways. In particular, it has the East-West Economic Corridor, which is the shortest route connecting Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
Secondly, Quang Tri is one of the leading localities in Vietnam for forest cultivation, processing and export of wood products.
Thirdly, being a coastal province, Quang Tri has a large amount of high-quality quartz sand that is a key material for the production of high-quality glass products and building materials.
Fourthly, the province is also high potential for the production of renewable energy thanks to its geographical position.
Fifth, Quang Tri also has great potentials to develop tourism, especially ecotourism and coastal tourism.
Finally, with the South-East Economic Zone and strong support from Vietnam’s Government, the province will be an attractive destination for international investors in the East-West Economic Corridor.
Minister of Planning and Investment (MPI) Nguyen Chi Dung said besides having many advantages in attracting domestic and foreign investment, Quang Tri’s investment environment has been also improved strongly through increasing the quality of human resources, streamlining administrative procedures and enhancing infrastructure.
Dung said that MPI will work with other relevant ministries and agencies to build up appropriate policies, aimed at creating favorable conditions for investors to pour in the province in the coming time.
Meanwhile, Singapore’s Minister of Industry and Trade Lim Hng Kiang highly appreciated investment opportunities in Quang Tri. He said that many Singaporean investors have sought for investment opportunities in the province for the past time. Most recently, in March this year, Singapore’s firms of Sembcorp Group and KinderWord came to the province to survey and select the location for the construction of a complex including industrial parks, urban areas and services under the VSIP model, as well as the Pegasus ecotourism complex.
