Vietnam: Hanoi electricity demand to increase 8% in 2021

The Hanoitimes – This year, the power output in the context of the Covid-19 impact will reach nearly 21 million kWh, up 4% compared to 2020.

Hanoi targets to gain power output of nearly 30 billion kWh in the 2021-2025 period, of which its commercial electricity output in 2021 will be nearly 22 billion kWh, up 7.5.%-8.1% compared to 2020.

These were among the objectives set in the latest Plan No. 51 on Hanoi’s electricity development in 2021, approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee.

According to the plan, in 2021, the average electric power consumption will reach about 2,650kWh per capita per year, power loss will be kept below 3.6%, while System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) will remain around 170 minutes and electricity loss will be reduced by 2.2%.

For 2021-2025, the average electric power consumption would be about 3,000kWh per person per year; and power loss would be below 3.5%, and less than 150 minutes of SAIDI.

To achieve the targets, the city will increase the proportion of the unmanned 110kV power substations, and continue to bury high, medium and low underground power lines in urban districts, replace mechanical meters with electronic ones and proceed to apply telemetry technology in the electricity retail model.

The city will invest in the construction of power projects according to the approved electricity development plan for the 2021-25 period and transitional works from the previous stage. It aims to install five 500-220kV and seventeen 110kV power projects and kicks start 21 new projects.
