Malaysia’s population up 1.3% to 32.2m end-Sept

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s population increased to 32.20 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2017 from a year ago, according to the Statistics Department.

It announced on Tuesday this was an increase of 1.3% from the 31.70mil in the previous corresponding quarter in 2016.
The chief statistician, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said that 129,500 live births were reported in Q3, 2017, an improvement of 0.3% from 129,900 a year ago.
On average, the number of live births in the third quarter (Q3) 2017 was 43,200 per month, he said.
“A total of 40,700 deaths were recorded in Q3, 2017. For the third quarter of 2016,  the number of deaths recorded was 40,900. On average, the number of deaths in Q3 2017 was 13,600 per month,” he said.
