Malaysia – Najib: Foreign investment greatly benefits the country

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says attracting foreign companies to invest in Malaysia will bring numerous benefits to the people and the local economy.

“Partnerships (between local and foreign companies) create jobs, lead to transfer know-how and improve expertise, efficiency and talent,” said the Prime Minister.

However, he said that there were “opponents” who try to make it seem that this is not the case.

“Every time foreign companies want to come here, they try to claim we are selling Malaysia off.

“We are doing nothing of the sort. They are trying to deceive the people,” he said at a signing agreement ceremony between Naza Group and Groupe PSA from France.

Under the agreement, Naza and Groupe PSA will jointly produce Groupe PSA branded cars such as Peugeot, Citroën, DS, OPEL and Vauxhall for Malaysia and other Asean markets.

The Naza Automotive Manufacturing plant in Gurun, Kedah is targeting the production of 18,000 units of cars in 2019 and another 21,000 units in 2020, possibly generating revenues of RM724mil and RM967mil respectively.
