Indonesia: Gov’t to Determine Mineral, Coal Export Tariff

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The tariff team led by Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) of Finance Ministry will determine tariff on mineral and coal exports after the government relaxed the regulation thereof.

Heru Priambudi, Director General of Customs and Excise at the Finance Minister, said that he continues to monitor the decision which will be made today, January 17, 2017.

“Tariff on mineral and coal exports will be determined tomorrow [today]. As an executor, we are ready to implement the decision made by the tariff team,” he said in a hearing with the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission XI on Monday, January 16.

He said that he could yet estimate possible state revenues from mineral exports because the tariff is yet to be set. However, he believes that import duty revenues will be boosted in line with rising CPO prices.

“We expect CPO prices to maintain the upward trend above USD750 per metric ton to boost state revenues,” he said.

Last year, out of Rp3.5 trillion state revenues from mineral export duty, Rp2.5 trillion was paid by PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara.
