Indonesia: Government Aim for Six Percent Economic Growth
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Deputy Finance Minister Mardiasmo said that in Indonesia is aiming for economic growth of around 6.1 percent in 2018.
To achieve the target, the government expects Indonesia’s economic growth to reach above 5.1 percent this year by stepping up infrastructure development, among others.
“The President is stepping up infrastructure development through subsidies. Jokowi wants 6.1 percent economic growth in 2018. This year’s economic growth must reach 5.4 percent,” Mardiasmo said at Ritz Carlton Hotel in South Jakarta on Monday, March 27, 2017.
The government is working closely with the private sector in infrastructure projects which are expected to help achieve equitable development.
The government has rolled out the non-government investment financing (PINA) program, among others. “PINA program, because [President] Jokowi has instructed that local businessmen must be engaged in infrastructure development,” Mardiasmo said.
Public Works and Public Housing Ministry official Yusid Toyib added that the government has issued some policies to improve the effectiveness of infrastructure development to stimulate economic growth.
The private sector is expected to assist the government in stepping up development in Indonesia. “Going forward, there will be preliminary negotiations, to avoid pressure on the private sector in development projects,” Mardiasmo said.
