Indonesia: Consumer Spending for Utensils, Gadgets in 2018 Will Increase

TEMPO.COJakarta – A market researcher GfK Indonesia predicts that consumer spending for communication devices and household utensils will continue to grow in 2018.

The company’s research revealed that the consumption of telecommunication gadgets will improve by 7.8 percent, while household utensils will grow 5 percent by year-end. This opportunity was responded well by e-commerce companies as one of the niche businesses in 2018, such as Bhinneka.com.

“We will explore more on the electronic gadget sector,” said Irina Marwan, Brand Marketing Manager of Bhinneka.com on Thursday, December 21.

Iriana reasons that the two sectors mentioned are interesting to work on since the migration of consumers’ shopping habits from the conventional way to online shopping. First purchasers in 2018 are expected to increase 10-20 percent.

“Society is becoming more aware of electronic transactions,” she explained.

Irina added that the significant growth in the online shopping sector is contributed by the millennial population that has a different approach towards shopping compared to the previous generation.

Irina is also optimistic that gadgetry sector will have its own allure since several brands will continue to launch new products towards the end of 2017.
