Indonesia – BPS: Inflation Rate Eases to 3.52 Percent, Lowest Since April 2022

TEMPO.COJakarta – Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) notes that the year-on-year inflation rate in the June 2023 period had decreased to 3.52 percent. This marks the lowest rate it has ever reached since April 2022.

“June inflation reached 3.52 percent, lower than April 2022 at 4.35 percent and kept showing a downward trend since March 2023,” Pudji Ismartini, Deputy Head of Distribution and Service Statistics revealed in a press conference on Monday, July 3, 2023.

Pudji presented that transportation fares rose up to 10.18 percent and contributed over 1.23 percent toward the general inflation rate.

“Meanwhile, gas, rice, cigarettes, housing prices, and domestic fuels are among the top commodities contributing towards the yearly inflation rate,” Pudji added. Reportedly, gas contributed over 0.84 percent while rice contributed over 0.38 percent towards the inflation rate. Cigarettes contributed over 0.22 percent, housing prices over 0.13 percent, and domestic fuels contributed over 0.12 percent.

Additionally, the main component experienced an inflation rate of 2.58 percent and contributed towards the yearly inflation of around 1.67 percent. The main commodities which impacted most towards the inflation rates are housing prices, house rent, college tuition, and jewelry.

The administered prices classification reached an inflation rate of 9.21 percent which impacted the yearly inflation at around 1.64 percent.

Lastly, the volatile goods classification reached an inflation rate of 1.20 percent which contributed 0.21 percent towards the yearly inflation, with the dominant commodities being rice, eggs, garlic, and chicken.
