Cambodia: TADA launches ride-hailing app with special fares for students

Cambodia’s fastest-growing ride-hailing app, TADA, has launched a dedicated service – named Student – just in time for the return back to the classroom.

The new service is available to all high school and college students in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and offers discounts of at least 20 percent on standard TADA tuktuk and car fares from today.

TADA General Manager Poly Chim said students have suffered major disruptions to their critical studies during the COVID-19 pandemic and offering them an easier and cheaper way to get back to class was an obvious choice for the company to make.

The ride-hailing app, which was built by regional tech company MVL Foundation and launched in Cambodia in May 2019, was the first zero-commission service, allowing its drivers to keep 100 percent of their passenger fares.

Other ride-hailing apps in Cambodia charge drivers a commission and passengers a “platform fee”, meaning drivers keep less money from the fare.

Last year, in response to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the company also launched TADA Delivery to support small businesses, offering three months of free delivery anywhere in Phnom Penh, followed by a flat fee of 4,000 riels for all deliveries in the following months.

“Supporting students return to school, supporting small businesses with cheap and reliable delivery and supporting drivers through our zero-commission commitment are all integral parts of our mission as a company to make a positive difference wherever we operate,” added Chim.

To take advantage of the offer, the company  urged eligible students to send a message via the company’s Facebook page, where they can find more details on registration. TADA also made news in September when it signed a memorandum of understanding on digital payment services with Chip Mong Bank, to provide additional options for paying for services via the bank’s mobile app. Ven Kamsan of Chip Mong said the app is “a driving force for the payment sector widening contactless payments”.
