Cambodia sees cassava exports increase by 40 percent in H1

In the first half of 2022, Cambodia exported 2.3 million tons of cassava products, an increase of about 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

This is according to a report from the General Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, released today.

According to the report, the sector also saw an increase in the export of dried cassava, clocking in at 1.5 million, which is an increase of 24.25 percent. 1.1 million tonnes were exported to Thailand and 400,000 tonnes were exported to Vietnam. The export of fresh cassava saw a larger increase, at about 97.97 percent, equivalent to 710,000 tonnes exported with 470,000 tons were exported to Vietnam and 230,000 tons to Thailand.

The export of cassava flour saw a massive 200 percent increase as the country exported 480,000 tonnes of cassava flour. The biggest market for cassava flour is China, which imported 470,000 tonnes of cassava flour, followed by the US with 600 tonnes imported.

Cassava waste was clocked in at 7,000 tonnes, an increase of 63.81 percent and 6,500 tonnes were imported to China and the remaining 500 tonnes were exported to Vietnam.

The main export markets for fresh cassava products from Cambodia are Vietnam and Thailand, while the US, the Netherlands, China, Malaysia and Italy are the main markets for cassava flour.
