Cambodia: Private sector raises concerns on customs procedure
Issues with customs procedures and implementation of trade facilities policies raised by the private sector have been resolved, in what officials and private sector said the outcome will contribute to facilitating trade as the country reopened fully, economic social activities.
The outcome was reached Tuesday in a meeting organised by the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, in collaboration with the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, when it held the 8th Meeting, Customs-Private Sector Partnership Mechanism in the form of a hybrid conference.
The meeting was jointly presided by Kun Nhim, Director General of Customs and Excise and Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. It was aimed at examining and addressing requests and issues from the private sector related to the implementation of customs procedures to ensure the implementation of trade facilitation policies and the promotion of law enforcement compliance.
Nhim highlighted the importance and ongoing achievements of the CPPM mechanism, which is a platform for the private sector to seek solutions to issues and suggestions related to customs procedures to further enhance trade facilitation and compliance in the context of the recovery of international trade activity in the post Covid-19 era.
Meng expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting.
“The 8th Meeting of Customs-Private Sector Partnership Mechanism is a forum for dialogue in partnership to consult and find solutions to any problems based on win-win formula and mutual understanding,” Meng said in the meeting.
Lim Heng, vice-president of CCC, called for strict controls of illegal imports of local suppliers.
“The partnership has pushed for a number of solutions, especially at the ports of sea, land and air. The Cambodian Chamber of Commerce also called for blocks on import of illegal goods, urging restrictions aimed at improving local SMEs to supply goods to factories, while Cambodia’s new investment law offers tariff exemptions,” Heng said.
