Cambodia: Ministry of Tourism issues certificates to approved tour operators

The Ministry of Tourism issued certificates to various tour operators in the country that were deemed safe, in a bid to boost domestic tourism.

The certificates on the afternoon of February 15. The Ministry held a ceremony to certify tour operators that met the operational standards set by the Ministry. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Director General of Tourism Management and Tourism Yin Sipheng, Deputy Secretary General of the National Committee for Clean Cities Assessment Chhun Makara, as well as other relevant authorities.

Deputy Director General Makara said that since the government announced the full reopening of the country on November of last year, the domestic tourism sector has seen rapid growth, which is a positive sign if the recovery of Cambodia’s tourism sector in 2022. Along with the Royal Government’s tax incentives, fee waivers, renewal of tourism licenses and other incentives, the Ministry of Tourism collaborated with local tour operators to launch an affordable domestic tour package last year. The Ministry of Tourism also set out operating standards for local tour operators to ensure safe travel.

Deputy Director General Sipheng said that at present, a total of 36 domestic tour operators, including 11 tour operators, have been organizing tour packages for national tourists to visit various resorts and tourist destinations. In order to strengthen the management of domestic tourism package activities to be safe, sustainable and more productive, the Deputy Director General also urged tour operators to continue to cooperate to strengthen service quality and better the implementation of tourism safety rules in compliance to the new normal.
