Cambodia: Marketing, logistics pact for local wares

The National Committee for the Promotion of the One Village One Product (OVOP) Movement under the Council of Ministers has signed a two-year cooperation agreement with the Logistics Business Association (LOBA) and Super App Technology Plc.

The tripartite agreement was signed on Friday at the Council of Ministers in a bid to promote the digital marketing of Cambodian commodities such as handicrafts, agriculture and services and improve their quality.

To support the OVOP movement spearheaded by the committee, LOBA and Super App will provide training to producers and explore markets for the Kingdom’s products through a digital network for the next 24 months.

The programme will be piloted in Kampong Cham province in partnership with the provincial One Village, One Product Promotion Committee.

LOBA will coordinate and assist in the pursuit of transport services to connect members with producers, regardless of their affiliation with the OVOP movement.

National committee secretary-general Chea Samnang said the public-private partnership will be instrumental in securing domestic and international markets for local wares via digital technology.

He stressed the congruity of the agreement with the National Policy on the Promotion of the One Village One Product Movement 2016-2026 and the First National Strategic Plan on the Promotion of the One Village One Product Movement 2019-2023.

“This cooperation will support the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises [MSMEs], associations, communities, Cambodian product makers, as well as promote productivity and sustainable development in Cambodia and contribute to economic development,” Samnang said.

LOBA president Chea Chandara said that through the agreement, the association will provide a means to facilitate the transport of producers’ merchandise to the market.

He said: “This partnership will foster collaboration, coordination and assistance to producers who may or may not be members of the OVOP movement and help find markets to sell Cambodian products using means of transport provided by members of LOBA.”

Super App founder and CEO Path Chamnan said his company would help build a data management system for local wares within the framework of the OVOP movement and strengthen the production chain and marketing network through an internationally-competitive, state-of-the-art digital network.

“Through this agreement, Cambodian products will be sold on the company’s online marketplace,” he said.
