Cambodia: Local firms urged to join import exhibition in Korea

The Ministry of Commerce has called on the local firms to attend the ‘The Import Goods Fair 2022’ to be held in South Korea next month where they can make business partnerships and build networks.

The Korea Importers Association (KOIMA) will hold an exhibition named The Import Goods Fair 2022 under the theme ‘Return to Trade’ which will take place from June 23-25.

The venue will be the COEX Exhibition Center in Seoul, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The ministry said traders and business owners who are interested in importing their products into the Korean market or wish to participate in a business partnership meeting with Korean companies shall contact the Ministry of Commerce and the organisers of the exhibition.

“Under the theme ‘Back to Business’, the IGF 2022 aims to serve as a platform to prepare a good foundation of recovery for the Korean import market in time after the Covid-19 crisis, and to facilitate the trading in Korea matchmaking with international exporting companies for the Korean market,” the ministry said.

The trade event is a part of diverse products and participant’s partnership, it added.

The two countries – Cambodia and Korea – are expected to fully implement the bilateral Free Trade Agreement within this year, which will push trade amount, and attract more foreign investors, particularly from South Korea.

The two sides signed the agreements late last year and Cambodia made ratification on the pact in February.

The bilateral free trade between Cambodia and South Korea surged 22.8 percent to $234.4 million in the first three months of this year.

Figures from the General Department of Customs and Excise showed that Cambodia exported $61.3 million worth of goods to South Korea from January to March, a 22.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The Kingdom imported $173 million worth of goods from South Korea, a 23.1 percent increase.

South Korea’s major exports to Cambodia include cars, machinery, textiles, and agricultural and marine products. It mostly imports textile-based goods and agricultural products from Cambodia.
