Vietnam’s cars imports jumped 6-fold in H1

The Hanoitimes – In June alone, a total of 10,540 cars were imported to Vietnam with value of US$254 million, up 26.5% month-on-month.

Vietnam imported 75,437 cars worth US$1.95 billion in the first six months of 2019, increasing 6-fold in quantity and 12.9% in value year-on-year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC).
Upon breaking down, 54,927 units were under-nine-seat cars, up 6-fold year-on-year, and 17,879 units were trucks, up over 6-fold.

In June alone, a total of 10,540 cars were imported to Vietnam with value of US$254 million, up 26.5% month-on-month.
Most of the cars imported into Vietnam last month came from Thailand with 7,575 units. Meanwhile, Indonesia was the second largest source with 1,468 units, followed by China with 653, South Korea with 274.
Under-nine-seat cars made up the largest proportion of imported cars to Vietnam, accounting for 67.8% of the total car imports with 7,145 units. The figure, however, declined 39.1% month-on-month or 4,580 units.
The majority of under-nine-seat cars were imported from Thailand in June with 5,080 units, up 17.6% month-on-month, followed by 1,463 cars from Indonesia, down 78.3%.
Meanwhile, Vietnam only imported 10 over-nine seat cars from China during the same month.
Additionally, 2,731 trucks worth US$77.1 million were imported into Vietnam last month, up 28% in quantity and 10.6% in value month-on-month, including 2,481 from Thailand, accounting for 91% of the total trucks in June and up 33.4% month-on-month. Another 123 trucks were also imported from China, down 51.2%.
A total of 654 vehicles of special purposes were imported to Vietnam in June worth US$40.3 million, including 394 from China, up 5.6% month-on-month, and 178 from South Korea, up 69.5%.
Vietnam also imported accessories and parts worth US$291 million in June, down 18.4% month-on-month from the figure of US$357 million in previous month. Suppliers of those products were mainly from South Korea with US$74 million, down 29.4% month-on-month; Thailand with US$52.5 million, down 9.3%; China with US$51.6 million, down 12.9%; Japan with US$51.4 million, down 3.4%; Indonesia with US$16.5 million, down 37.3%; and Germany with US$13.3 million, down 29.2%.
