Vietnam: Visa in tie-up to support farmers
HCM CITY — Visa has announced a partnership with the Vietnam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency (iDEA) for speeding up the digitisation in small agricultural firms.
It will help farmers adopt e-commerce and digital payments and digitise their operations to position agriculture as a driving force for the country’s economic development.
Đặng Tuyết Dung, country manager of Visa Vietnam and Laos, said: “We are happy to partner with iDEA and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and extend our expertise and solutions to farmers across Việt Nam.
“Setting foot on the digital highway will empower Vietnamese producers to grow larger and nimbler … and help modernize and leverage the supply chain of agricultural production in Việt Nam.”
Visa will support smallholder farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises with onboarding and setting up digital sales capabilities. With the fundaments in place, they will be supplied with the means to grow their businesses with the requisite operations and logistics.
Bùi Huy Hoàng, deputy director of Centre for Information and Digital Technology belonging to the Việt Nam e-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency, said: “Digitisation is truly needed in the Vietnamese agricultural sector. With our new partnership, MoIT, iDEA and Visa will help farmers and small business owners take the first and most daunting step in the digital journey. From there we will be able to re-position agriculture as a driving force for Việt Nam’s development.”
Visa and its partners will provide smallholder farmers and SMEs access to digital payment solutions and technologies to help acquirers/payment facilitators instantly approve and get merchants up and running. — VNS
