Vietnam to Repair Highway Connecting it to Laos, Cambodia and Thailand
Vietnam has launched a project to repair and expand roads connecting its central region to the neighboring countries of Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Viet Nam News reports that the project is expected to cost USD 76 million and it will upgrade roads in the central province of Quảng Nam and the Central Highlands of Vietnam that connect to the three countries.
Vietnam’s National Highway 14E which seeks to benefit from this project connects Quang Nam Province to the Central Highlands region, which links Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand through the Ho Chi Minh Road.
The Department of Roads in Vietnam is the primary investor in the project that expects to wrap up construction by 2025.
A total of 74 kilometers on the route will be restored as part of the improvement project, with a total investment of more than USD 75.8 million.
Vietnamese Transport Minister Nguyen Van Thang stated that the route will connect the plains and highlands and boost the development of Quang Nam and the Central region, promoting trade along the East-West Economic Corridor in Vietnam.
The project will reduce travel and freight transportation distances between Vietnam’s Central Highlands, northern and south-central coastal regions, southern Laos, northeastern Cambodia, and Thailand. It will also reduce travel time on this route.
