Vietnam: Delivery services in hot demand following Covid-19 outbreak
Delivery services are becoming popular again in Hanoi following the latest Covid-19 outbreak.
Hanoi People’s Committee has asked restaurants to follow social distancing rules and install dividers between the seats if necessary. Customers have also been advised to buy take-away food. As a result, many people have turned to delivery services to buy food.
Since 7 am, many deliverymen were seen lining up outside the restaurants along To Hieu Street. One said that they normally had 10 orders a day but in the past two weeks, they have had 25-30 orders a day. The busiest hours are in the early morning and noon.
Hoang Van Son from Ba Dinh District said, “Customers have to pay a fee of VND7,000 per km. 20% of the fees go to Grab. If we work as both deliverymen and motorbike-taxi driver at the same time, we can earn VND800,000 (USD35) to VND1m a day.”
Pham Thi Xuan, an employee at ACB Bank, said, “I already order takeaway food a lot and the outbreak has only made me increase my orders.”
