Thailand: Tax break aims to boost Otop, book sales

Tyres, books and community-based products will be subject to the shopping tax break scheme starting next month, according to Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong. 
The year-end tax break is being offered to boost local consumption of these products. 
Tyres must be made by domestic manufacturers while books can be either hard copies or e-books. 
Community-based products, also known as One Tambon One Product (Otop) items, will also be subject to the tax break. 
The incentive will let individual taxpayers deduct up to 15,000 baht of taxable income from the value of the goods they purchase. The incentive will be offered for one month during December and January, said the finance minister, without specifying the dates. 
Taxpayers can deduct from their taxable income either this year or next.
