Philippines: Grab expands food delivery to Cebu

MANILA, Philippines — Southeast Asia’s leading online-to-offline mobile platform Grab is bringing its food delivery service to Cebu as it continues to expand its services in more cities and grow its merchant-partners base in the Philippines.

Grab Philippines said GrabFood targets to replicate its success in Metro Manila to Cebu, given the city’s booming economy for technology and growth opportunities in the food business.

The Cebu expansion comes just six months after GrabFood’s beta launch in Metro Manila.

“Our goal as Filipino’s everyday super app is to provide greater convenience to more people using our daily tech solutions. As one of the best food markets in the country, we are inspired to bring new food experiences and create a positive impact to the lives of more eaters, merchant-partners and delivery partners in Cebu,” GrabFood Philippines head EJ Dela Vega said.

With the addition of the GrabFood service, Cebu now becomes the second market in the Philippines to have a suite of everyday services that is powered by one Grab ecosystem.

Cebuanos will now be able to use Grab to not only book rides, but also order food, on top of other services such as send and receive packages, redeem rewards and offers, load mobile prepaid account, and pay for multiple services using one mobile wallet.

“GrabFood sits in the same Grab app you use every day to book a ride. From the home screen, our consumers can easily choose Food from the services menu and they will get access to a variety of restaurants and food partners near their area,” Dela Vega said.

GrabFood said it has partnered with local brands such as Dimsum Break, Zubuchon, Bubble Tea Station, Sugbo Mercado, and soon, international brands including McDonalds and BonChon in Cebu.

Grab has quickly become an “everyday app” from being just a ride-hailing app with over 125 million downloads region-wide and a presence in one in two smartphones in the Philippines.
