Malaysia: MAHB’s airports report 59.4% fall in passengers in March
KUALA LUMPUR: MALAYSIA AIRPORTS HOLDINGS BHD’s (MAHB) network of airports registered 4.8 million passengers in March 2020, a decline of 59.4% from a year, severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It said on Friday passenger movements system-wide contracted to 4.8 million passengers in March.
International and domestic passenger movements registered 1.7 million and three million passenger movements with a decline of 68.9% and 50.8% respectively.
The sharp decline was due to the imposition of the movement control order (MCO) from March 18 in Malaysia and suspension of international flights for Turkey effective March 27.
MAHB said in the first quarter, its network of airports recorded a decline of 23.9% with 25.5 million passenger movements due to Covid-19 MCO.
“International and domestic sectors declined by 27.8% and 20.3% respectively in Q1 2020 over the same corresponding period last year with 11.6 million with 13.9 million passenger movements, ” it said.
MAHB said on a 12-month basis, the total MAHB network of airports saw a 0.9% decline with 133.2 million passenger movements from a year ago.
