Indonesia: Transportation Minister Warns Grab About Recruitment System

TEMPO.COJakarta – The Ministry of Transportation has threatened to give stricter sanctions to Grab Indonesia. Grab, an applicator for online transportation service provider has received a written warning after a number of sexual harassment cases committed by the driver partners to its service users.

“It does not mean that we cannot be more assertive,” said Director General of Land Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, Tuesday, November 20.

The hearing was held on Monday, November 19, as an effort by the government to suppress Grab in ensuring the improvement of service, security and safety of its users. “If we can’t change it, we will provide stricter sanctions,” he said.

The hearing was also used by Budi to convey the Minister of Transportation’s instruction regarding the Grab’s poor recruitment system, Grab was considered not serious.

“They (Grab) recruited people just like that, they don’t even seem to have direct contact with their driver partners. This is certainly a problem,” said Budi.

Budi ensured that he would immediately establish communication regarding sanctions for applicators that could not guarantee the security and safety of their users.

“I am sure, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will immediately follow up on the complaint, including the closure of the application operating permit,” he said.
