Indonesia: NTB residents can now pay vehicle tax via smartphone
The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial administration has launched its digital payment service called SAMSAT Delivery to allow people to pay annual tax for their vehicles through their smartphones.
“This innovative program is for the first time available in Indonesia. We hope this will increase the rate of vehicle tax payment,” NTB Police chief Insp. Gen. Achmat Juri said during the launch in Mandalika, Central Lombok, recently.
“The e-payment platform is not just to help people pay their vehicle tax with an easy payment process, but it will help officers to quickly verify vehicles,” said Achmat, adding that it was a New Year gift for NTB residents.
Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Police’s traffic department, Adj. Sr. Comr. Amin Litarso, explained that to pay tax through SAMSAT Delivery, vehicle owners could open the application and find their vehicle tax bill and complete the payment process.
“People who spend their leisure time at Lombok Epicentrum Mall, for example, can just open the SAMSAT Delivery application and process the payment before our officers come with a tax notice. It is just as easy as buying smartphone credit,” he added.
NTB treasury head Iswandi expressed the hope that with the new payment platform, the WTB administration would be able to collect more regional revenue.
“We are challenged to increase regional revenue for development and the recovery process,” he said, referring to the recovery of the areas hit by the recent earthquakes in the province.
Rahmat Solihin, a local resident, expressed support for the program. “As a local, I am truly happy with the platform. Now, paying motorcycle tax is easier for us. It’s just like booking Go-Jek,” Rahmat said, referring to ride-hailing app service Go-Jek. (das/bbn)
