Indonesia: Finance Ministry Will Examine Mining Firms’ Income Tax Returns
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Ministry will examine mining companies’ income tax returns. Local governments will also be involved in the process.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the ministry will work closely with the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and the Home Affairs Ministry, who will supply the database of mining companies in Indonesia.
Sri Mulyani said that the government will examine corporate tax compliance.
The government will coordinate with local governments in the issuance of mining permits. Local governments have now taken over a large part of the issuance procedure for both exploration and exploitation permits.
Sri Mulyani said she has secured the data on companies who have not paid their liabilities. The Finance Minister has instructed her subordinates to communicate with local governments to discuss on corporate tax compliance, including income tax return of mining companies.
The former World Bank director asserted that the government will punish companies who fail to comply with the laws. “We will coordinate with regional governments to take disciplinary measures,” she said.
