Brunei to study Malaysia’s ‘green lane’ proposal on border re-opening
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said that Brunei Darussalam has set up a committee to discuss the ‘green bubble’ or ‘green lane’ countries method and how it will be managed.
The minister responded to a question on a recent statement made by Malaysian Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham bin Abdullah that several factors must be considered before Malaysia decides to ease border restrictions, such as using the ‘green bubble’ or ‘green lane’ countries method to allow cross-border travel.
“However, it is too early for Brunei to do this, as we are still on the first level of reducing social distancing measures in this country. If no problems arise, our country will move on to the next level,” said Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham at the daily press conference yesterday.
“Nonetheless, this matter has been taken into account with the government already working on our stance with it and how it can be carried out, if there is a mutual understanding between Brunei and any country that we have agreed to. But it is not likely to occur at this time.”
