Brunei: Faster cashless payment for card users
THE Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) intensified its efforts in promoting cashless payments in Brunei by launching an integrated payment solution with Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd at McDonald’s Brunei Gadong Branch last Friday.
The integration of the point-of-sale (POS) terminal with cash register system enables entering cashless payment details in cash register system, which will then automatically be displayed on POS terminal screen.
This eliminates the need to enter the same data on the POS terminal and reduces the workload and time spent by the cashiers for accepting card payments and in turn, results in faster payment transaction as well as decreased queue lines at counters.
The integration is also expected to boost sales as cashless payments by card users are expected to increase. Additionally, the system is anticipated to eliminate possibilities of human error when inputting details into the POS terminal.
BIBD’s Head of Merchant Services Law Siew Vui said, “Our latest initiative will provide a lot of convenience to customers whereby they do not need to go to ATM and withdraw cash. This essentially helps reduce travelling and queuing time for customers.
“This will be the first and we will look to offer this solution not only to fast food outlets but also other businesses including supermarkets. Our ultimate goal is to encourage Bruneians to start adopting the idea of cashless payments as it will only serve to benefit the community and support the Brunei government’s agenda of decashing the economy and transforming Brunei into a fully cashless society.”
Utilising this system will also allow merchants to decrease workload related to cash acceptance and collection, reduce risks of cash storage at cash registers, reduce storage of coins and small notes at each store and mitigate risks related to storage and transportation of cash to the bank.
The introduction of this solution is one of BIBD’s branchless banking initiatives that uses BIBD’s NEXGEN platform to create more collaboration and alliance which encourages the creation of a cashless economy and helps the nation documents the economy.
This also provides BIBD’s customers access and ease of transaction convenience including its provisions to McDonald’s Brunei hence fulfilling the needs of both end of the ecosystem – customers and corporate clients. McDonald’s Brunei will be the first company to have an integrated POS terminal with its cash register which is linked to the global McDonald’s electronic cash register. This process enhances its customers’ experience and convenience in paying their meals.
McDonald’s restaurants nationwide accept card payments for all types of MasterCard and Visa debit and credit cards. Customers can pay using their cards at the front counter and drive-thru and with the introduction of BIBD’s contactless cards, customers can simply pay their orders by tapping their cards on the POS terminal.
This is part of the global food franchise’s ‘Experience of the Future’ initiative to offer convenient and fast services to its customers. To further encourage customers to use cashless payment, McDonald’s Brunei will not impose any minimum purchase for customers to pay their meal via cards.
McDonald’s Brunei will be holding several promotions throughout the month of Ramadhan.
