Vietnamese investment, business climate gets good grades

(VEN) – The results of a survey carried out by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) show that most companies saw considerable improvements of the investment and business environment in the past several years. In their opinion, however, the level of improvement varies between different sectors, as well as between different localities.

VCCI conducted the survey among 10,000 privately owned companies to provide the basis for assessing the implementation of Government Resolution 19 on improving the business environment and enhancing national competitiveness. Survey results show that business establishment and electricity access are the two fields where companies saw greater improvements compared with others.

Specifically, most surveyed companies said they were satisfied with business registration procedures and saw the highest level of improvement in this field among those mentioned in Resolution 19.

Regarding electricity access, the survey shows that the percentage of companies speaking well of the electricity infrastructure increased from 59 percent in 2014 to 74 percent in 2017. Most surveyed companies expressed a positive opinion about the stability of power supply. They also expressed their satisfaction with procedures related to power connection, as well as with the service of customer relations clerks at power companies.

Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), said that over the past five years, the group had raised the awareness of electricity sector workers about the importance of service, while at the same time maintaining its coordination with provinces and cities in facilitating business access to electricity. He believes these efforts are the key to the EVN’s success.

Surveyed companies spoke well of the business and investment environment in Dong Thap, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Vinh Phuc, An Giang and Long An. The Mekong region received higher satisfaction grades from businesses compared with the rest of the country. Most companies saw significant improvements achieved by localities in implementing administrative procedures.

Companies also praised the computerization of formalities related to tax, customs and social security in the past four to five years.

In some localities, such as Lang Son, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Vung Tau, Binh Duong and Long An, companies gave good marks to changes in import, export formalities and conditions.
