Vietnam: Consumer goods abundant, prices stable during 2021 Tet

The Hanoitimes – In Hanoi, in addition to expanding the distribution network of goods, all levels and branches of the city have stepped up the inspection and supervision of the origin of goods in the market.

Hanoi and other localities have supplied abundant goods for local people, preventing commodity price hike and ensuring market demand during Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has just released a quick report on the market situation in a number of cities and provinces across the country during the holiday.

In Hanoi, in addition to expanding the distribution network of goods, all levels and branches of the city have stepped up the inspection and supervision of the origin of goods in the market.

The municipal Department of Industry and Trade informed that the entire commercial network in the city has implemented Covid-19 prevention and control measures while online business keeps working during Tet.

However, in wet markets, there are still people who did not wear face masks and no one asked them to take Covid-19 prevention measures.

Besides, Hanoi authorities and functional forces have inspected businesses during Tet, focusing on combating illegal trade, imported frozen foods, cigarettes, medical equipment and supplies for Covid-19 prevention and control, and among others.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year 2021, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan said the department asked local enterprises to stock up essential goods worth VND39.4 trillion (US$1.7 billion), 5% above the budget estimated for Tet.

Besides, local businesses are requested to stick with their plans of ensuring essential products as well as responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the shopping situation in the city is not as exciting as in previous years. People did not join crowded places and switched to online food shopping platforms of supermarkets and convenience stores such as Coop Mart, Bach Hoa Xanh, and so on.

According to the MoIT, Ho Chi Minh City enterprises set aside VND19.7 trillion (US$851.5 million) to store goods for the two months of Tet, an increase of VND652.4 billion (US$28.2 million) compared to last year’s Tet.

Supermarkets in the city have also worked with suppliers to ensure sufficient provision of goods at steady prices for the next two to three months, diminishing public fear of shortages.

A number of provinces including two Covid-19 epicenters of Quang Ninh and Hai Duong, Hai Phong, as well as Dong Nai, Dong Thap also ensured market demands during Tet holiday are met.

They still continue promoting the campaign “Vietnamese buy Vietnamese products”, thereby supporting enterprises in production and sales.
