Thailand to Charge New Tourist Fees This Year
Thailand will collect new fees for passengers entering by air, land, and sea starting in June this year.
The Thiger reports that visitors who arrive in Thailand will be charged a new tourist fee. Tourists arriving by air will be charged TBH 300 (USD 9.16) while those entering by land or sea will be charged TBH 150 (USD 4.58).
Select groups of people will be excluded from these fees: Thai nationals, airline personnel, infants under two years of age, civil servants traveling for work, Thai passport and temporary border pass holders, and “employees” on single day trips.
Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the Thai minister of tourism and sports, disclosed that the National Tourism Policy Committee met last Friday to review visitor fees.
“At the meeting, we discussed various issues about the collection of the tourist fee until we came to an agreement. Now, we will seek approval from the Cabinet within the next week.”
Thailand has introduced these fees in order to support the tourism sector and improve security for tourists in the country.
