Thailand: Consumer confidence up in June
The consumer confidence index climbed to 81.3 in June from 80.1 in May on exports, tourism and rising farm prices, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday.
The increase was also attributed to the government’s signal that it would control fuel prices, a matter that had worried consumers in May.
According to the UTCC, consumers expect economy recovery to spread wider in the country in the second half of this year and their consumption of products and services would increase accordingly during this period.
That would help ensure economic growth of about 4.5% this year.
However, the university pointed out that a confidence index below 100 points showed that consumers thought the economy had not recovered significantly yet.
Consumers were still worried about local and international political situations, international trade disputes and farm prices, which remained in the low zone, it said.
