Now Cambodian Rice Federation seeks understanding from buyers as logistics logjam hinders deliveries
The Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF) has appealed for understanding and patience from all stakeholders, especially the buyers, as rice exporters and millers have been facing transport problems due to lockdown.
In order to control the spread of COVID-19, the Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a lockdown order on the whole of Phnom Penh capital and Takhmao town effective from April 15 to 28, 2021, said CRF in a statement issued this morning, adding that his lockdown order requires that all non-essential business be shut down and that all residents should remain at home and only leave their house for emergencies or whenever absolutely necessary, it added.
“The lockdown is causing disruptions to rice millers and the logistics sector and we are unable to operate the milling and freely transport the rice from the mills in/or crossed city/provinces/districts to the port during this lockdown. Some of our members who are not located within the lockdown areas are also affected as their staff reside in Phnom Penh and Takhmao and thus are prevented from going to work,” it explained.
According to the statement, these companies are unable to operate normally. This may result in delay in production as well as failure to meet previously agreed delivery schedules.
“We would like to appeal for your understanding to facilitate and make arrangements to help accommodate this special situation. We all have to co-operate and obey the instructions of the Royal Government of Cambodia and join hands to combat the spread of COVID-19. We urge all of you not to punish our members for this situation that is beyond our control,” said CRF. Heng Panha – AKP
