New Thai IT firm says it has plans to enter Cambodian market
BBIX Thailand, a newly formed joint venture between two IT giants, plans to offer its services in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar in the near future, according to a company representative.
The company was established last week by Japan-based BBIX, an internet exchange service provider under Softbank Corp., and True Internet Data Center, a leading Thai data center and cloud service provider.
Hideyuki Sasaki, a representative for BBIX, told Khmer Times via email yesterday that the company plans to expand its internet exchange services across the region, beginning with Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia
“We will expand the service to these countries once our operations in Thailand are well established. I think we may need a few more years,” he said.
“Once we start operating in these countries, users will benefit from an improvement in quality and a reduction in costs.
“If there is a chance, we’re always seeking opportunities to expand our services to new cities around the world,” he added.
Im Vutha, spokesman for the Telecommunication Regulator Cambodia, said last month that there has been a spike in the number of internet connections in the Kingdom, with nearly two million new subscribers registered in the first half of 2018.
The total number of internet users has reached 12 million as of the end of last month, up from 10.8 million in December, according to Mr Vutha.
