There are 29 industrial zones in Yangon Region. These are managed mainly by committees consisting of private sector businessmen. 

Going forward, these committees will be joined by management teams comprising members of the relevant ministries under the Yangon Regional Government. The committees and management teams will together carry out the upgrading process of each industrial zone, U Phyo Min Thein said.

The Yangon Region industrial zone management team can add value by improving access to electricity and clean water, resolving waste water treatment and squatter issues as well as ensuring road safety and connectivity.

“The government can facilitate the upgrading of the industrial zones by resolving municipal issues such as ensuring the safe relocation of squatters occupying the area into low-cost housing provided by the public and private sector,” U Phyo Min Thein said. “All this will be done within the current government’s remaining term.”

In addition, the Yangon Regional Government will also help to facilitate and expedite the construction of new industrial zones in 11 townships in the outskirts of Yangon as well as the new Special Economic Zone which will established at Dala township in the Yangon Region after completion of the Yangon-Dala Bridge.
