Myanmar: Consumers Affairs Department launches online complaint service
The Consumers Affairs Department has opened an online complaint section on its website so people can relay grievances and dissatisfaction about products and services faster, Deputy Director U Myint Lwin told The Myanmar Times on Monday.
He said the department, which is under the Ministry of Commerce, has received more than 80 online complaints that were immediately acted upon by its staff, and the complainants were immediately informed about the action taken.
U Myint Lwin said, “I would like to inform consumers that we have taken action on such complaints.”
To receive follow-up action on their concerns, the consumer needs to fill out information online, providing their name, national registration card number, address and phone number, U Myint Lwin said.
For complaints submitted online, copies of contracts or purchase orders or bills are to be attached to the complaint, according to the department website.
The aim of an online complaint system is for consumers to be able to complain easily about their dissatisfaction about goods and services.
“Some people don’t want to come in person. Some don’t know how to complain. This online system is aimed at making it easy to file a complaint and saves time and effort on the part of consumers,” U Myint Lwin said.
The govenrment has been initiating programmes to better protect the consumers.
Consumers who would like to complain about goods and services can access online forms through the department’s website: www.doca.gov.mm/complaint/public/.
