Laos-Vietnam Trade Reaches US$ 823 Million
(KPL) The annual bilateral trade volume between the Lao PDR and Vietnam was recorded at more than US$820 million in 2016.
Laos’ exports to Vietnam were estimated at US$345 million, while Vietnam’s exports to Laos reached US$478 million, according to a report at the Laos-Vietnam Trade Promotion and Business Matching Seminar held in Vientiane on Jun 30.
The seminar was chaired by Somchit Inthamith, Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, and attended by Lao and Vietnamese businesspeople.
Regulations and policies on the promotion of trade and investment were presented at the meeting, along with business partnerships between businesspeople of the two countries.
The participants were also briefed on incentives businesspeople in the two countries are entitled to.
Among the incentives were the tariff exemption and excise taxes by the government of Vietnam for goods, animals and industrial crops produced by people living districts or provinces located along the common border of Laos and Vietnam.
The seminar was part of the celebration of the Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017, with events including the 40th anniversary of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (Jul 18, 1977-2017) and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (Sep 5, 1962-2017).
