Laos, Vietnam enhance cooperation in information
Laos and Vietnam have agreed on the agenda of their cooperation programme on information over the five year period from 2016 to 2020.
Laos’ Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Prof. Dr Bosengkham Vongdara, and Vietnam’s Minister of Information and Communication, Truong Minh Tuan, yesterday signed the cooperation action plan in Vientiane.
The two ministries also signed an agreement last year in relation to cooperation in the development of the information sector.
At the meeting between the two ministers yesterday, Prof. Dr Bosengkham said he agreed on the direction of the cooperation, noting the completed radio and television transmission station in Oudomxay province as a successful example of cooperation, in which standard equipment was installed.
Another target of the ministries’ cooperation is the construction of a radio and television transmission station in Savannakhet province, which the Lao minister said was basically finished and would be fully complete by the end of next month.
At their meeting on Tuesday, officials from the two ministries discussed the operation of the station in Oudomxay and the two projects underway in Luang Prabang and Champassak provinces.
Prof. Dr Bosengkham said yesterday it would be an improvement if the Vietnamese ministry would consider altering the system to digital operation in these two provinces.
Laos and Vietnam also reached agreement on cooperation in newspapers and other printed products, the exchange of radio and television programmes and technical matters, and training. On Monday, the Lao ministry’s Office Head, Mr Vanhsy Kouamoua, and Head of Office of the Vietnamese ministry, Mr Nguyen Thai Binh, signed agreements on continuing cooperation in IT system and electronic data management.
Cooperation in the information sector between Laos and Vietnam up until 2020 also includes the exchange of delegations and human resource development.
Prof. Dr Bosengkham proposed setting up a media coordination team for the exchange of printed products, radio and television programmes, and information, aiming at effective implementation of the projects.
In cooperation with the Lao ministry, Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications yesterday opened an exhibition of books, photos and media publications on Vietnam-Laos relations in 2017, and will organise an information and communications technology (ICT) forum.
The Vietnamese ministry will also sign cooperation deals with Laos’ Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to support Vietnamese firms in expanding business and investment in the field of ICT in Laos.
