Laos: Rent relief as some landlords lower monthly room fees
-Many apartment and accommodation owners in the capital are lowering room rental prices for resident workers during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The government-ordered temporary closure of factory operations, entertainment venues, restaurants, and many non-essential business activities from
April 1-19 will affect the incomes and financial status of many workers from across Laos and beyond.
Apartment owner in Salakham village, Hadxaifong district, Mr Kedsana Sundara spoke to Vientiane Times on Thursday.
Landlord Mr Kedsana said that he would lower the room rental price charged to his customers by 50 percent during the COVID-19 outbreak.
He said he felt pity for customers who had become unemployed during the COVID-19 outbreak and mitigation measures.
“The apartment had 14 rooms and was booked 13 rooms. Usually, the room price is 500,000kip per month,” he said.
Meanwhile, the representative of customers at another apartment complex, Ms Vone Chanthala took to social media to thank owner Ms Audi Vannaly for a reduction in room rental fees during COVID-19 outbreak.
She expressed thanks on behalf of residents and sincere wishes for Ms Vannaly and her family to enjoy good health.
