Indonesia’s Trade Surplus Narrowed in November

By Yi Wei Wong

Indonesia’s trade surplus was $3.51 billion in November, compared with $5.73 billion in October, as on-month import growth grew faster than export growth, Indonesia’s statistics agency said Wednesday.

The result was narrower than the median forecast from a Wall Street Journal poll of analysts, which expected a $4.30 billion surplus.

Indonesia recorded trade surpluses with the U.S., Philippines and Malaysia, the statistics agency said.

Exports rose 49.7% from a year earlier to $22.84 billion in November, led by exports of mining-related products. Exports rose 3.7% compared the month before.

Imports in November rose 52.6% on year to $19.33 billion, due to higher raw-material imports. They increased 18.6% compared with October.
