Indonesia: Jokowi Meets Kadin, Discuss Tax Audit
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) executive board on Thursday night discussing tax audit, among others. Kadin chairman Rosan Roeslani said that they discussed the roles of state-owned enterprises and private firms in the business world.
Rosan said that Kadin proposed a new rule for tax audits. “On taxation issue, we proposed, among others, that companies be audited by sworn auditors instead of tax auditors,” he said.
He added that the companies promise they would not compromise the sworn auditors’ independence. If there are any irregularities to be found, the blame can be laid at the hands of the relevant auditors.
“Under such conditions, companies and auditors will be deterred from colluding with each other. If any problems are found, the auditor will get caught. To us, it would be fairer than putting the blame on companies for auditor errors,” he said.
Rosan claimed that the proposal has been responded well by the government. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that she will follow up on it with Director General of Tax and auditors’ association.
“…It will give certainty to the business world,” the Kadin chairman said.
