Indonesia – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani: Debt is a Sexy Issue

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati had just stated debt as a sexy issue because when she posted an explanation of the state debt in her official account on the Facebook platform, the topic attracted 100,000 public response via the comment sections.

“Debt is a sexy issue. I have posted about it on Facebook and less than an hour I got a hundred thousand responses. And this morning, 2,4 million people have commented on it,” she said when lecturing in Indonesia Economic Quarterly event at Energy Building, Jakarta, March 27.

Sri Mulyani claimed herself as the most popular government officer in the world. “I thought no other finance minister who likes debating about debt issue until 2.4 million people joined the discussion in a Facebook account,” said Sri Mulyani followed by the audience’s laughter.

Earlier, the Indonesian’s debt which reached at Rp4000 trillion became the hot topic among the public. However, the Finance Minister asserted that the government always well manage the country’s funds, including debts. She assured that the government’s ability to cover the debt has gradually increased over the years.

Based on Tempo observation through the Facebook official account belong to Sri Mulyani, the post she referred to has 2,840 comments, has been shared 19,640 times and attracted 18,535 people via emoticon feature.
