Indonesia: 2017 FIDIC Conference Expected to Attract Foreign Investment
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Consultant Association (Inkindo) said that the 2017 International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Conference is expected to attract foreign investment into Indonesia. The conference is held at Jakarta Convention Center on October 1-3.
Inkindo chairman Nugroho Pudji Rahardia said that consultants play a key role in convincing investors to invest in Indonesia.
Therefore, Nugroho expects that the conference will promote construction investment opportunities in Indonesia. “If consultants suggest that Indonesian projects are promising, investors will be interested,” he said yesterday at JCC.
The 2017 FIDIC International Conference adopts the theme of infrastructure resistance against natural disasters. As many as 600 participants from 70 countries are present at the annual conference.
Some issues to be discussed include Japan’s post-earthquakes infrastructure handling, increased sea water level and impact of flooding in the United States and Indonesia, and designs to avoid serious damage to buildings.
Nugroho said that the theme has been selected bearing in mind the impact of natural disasters to infrastructure. “It’s even more important since Indonesia is home to volcanoes,” he said.
He added that the conference is held at the right time since Indonesia is stepping up infrastructure projects. “It’s a good opportunity for Indonesian construction experts,” he said, regarding the foreign investment.
