Draft over infrastructure linking Lancang-Mekong countries
Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) this week opened discussions for the draft on 2020-2030 cooperation plan Lancang-Mekong countries.
The purpose of the dissuasion is to review and comment on the draft concerning the infrastructure linking Lancang-Mekong countries.
The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications’ Secretary of State, Khay Khunheng, who chaired the meeting said the proposed cooperation plan will benefit the infrastructure connection among countries in region.
“It will serve as a roadmap for the cooperation effort on sustainable development and cultural exchange as well as establishing community for promoting peace and prosperity among the countries in the Lancang-Mekong region,” he said.
The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is a sub-regional cooperation mechanism connecting the six countries along the Mekong River, which is known as Lancang in China.
The LMC was formed in March 2016, with China acting as an investor and guarantor for projects in everything from agriculture to tourism as part of its wider Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Khunheng said the plan will also support countries in strengthening their development cooperation and project implementation, while enabling better infrastructure connection and promotion of investments in the Lancang Mekong region.
Last year, the Chinese government provided more than $7.5 million to Cambodia through the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund 2018 in a bid to boost economic growth. The money was used to implement 19 projects in a variety of areas, including education, health and tourism.
