CLMVT Countries Promote Trade and Investment
(KPL) CLMVT countries have continued to promote trade and investment through technology.
The statement was made at the CLMVT Forum 2018 under theme “CLMVT Taking -Off Through Technology” held in Bangkok, Thailand on Aug 16, 2018.
The forum aims to drive seamless connectivity in all dimensions throughout value chain between the CLMVT countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand).
The forum also is to facilitate networking between prominent business leaders, young entrepreneurs, key policy makers, and renowned academics from CLMVT and beyond to promote a shared prosperity in accordance with sustainable development principles amid an era of technological disruption. Accordingly, the theme of this year’s forum is CLMVT Taking-Off Through Technology.
“I strongly believe in the “Stronger Together” principle of mutual benefits, mutual respect, and win-win outcomes and inclusiveness. Standing in the middle ground between competition and cooperation will definitely bear fruits for our people,” said Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha.
He also said that private sector and academia will have significant roles to play as key drivers of innovation creation and commercialization and to foster collaboration among related partners.
The two-day event will provide the participants the opportunity to explore issues determining CLMVT’s future against rising wave of technologies, thereby shaping their collective actions to enhance competitiveness and inclusive growth, while reducing disparities of all five CLMVT countries.
“The digital age where trade is increasingly conducted through a digital means, has brought about a dramatic change to which the whole CLMVT region must adapt,“ said Mr Sontirat Sontijirawong, Minister of Commerce of Thailand.
“As the world economy has become increasingly more volatile, complex and tightly connected with the arrival of new technology, it is important for the CLMVT region to get together and create the CLMVT region dreams that can collectively withstand the socks and accelerate its economic take off,“ added Mr Sontirat.
Lao Vice Minister of Science and Technology Houmphan Intharath, representatives of business leaders, young entrepreneurs, policymakers and renowned academics from CLMVT countries attended the event.
