Cambodia: Law on consumer protection to pass next year: Ministry
The Consumer Protection Law is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers early next year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
Two other key pieces of legislation – the Competition Law and the E-commerce Law – are also expected to be passed next year.
Mao Thora, Secretary of State at the Minister of Commerce, said discussions at the inter-ministerial level on the Consumer Protection Law are reaching an end.
“Discussions will finish next month, and next we will focus on the Competition Law,” Mr Thora said.
“Thanks to the advice of experts from the Asian Development Bank, the Consumer Protection Law will gain approval first. The law will be approved in January or February because there are still a few articles that we need to discuss,” he said.
Mr Thora said they goal is to get all three pieces of legislation – on consumer protection, competition and e-commerce – passed by next year.
“We’ve spent a long time drafting and discussing these laws, but we want key experts in each sector to provide feedback.
“We want to make the best and most comprehensive laws possible,” Mr Thora added.
