Cambodia is ready to welcome vaccinated tourists during the fourth quarter of 2021
Sieng Neak, Deputy Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation, on behalf of Thong Rathsak, Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation led a meeting of professional officials of the Ministry of Tourism to attend the Mekong Tourism Working Group Meeting.
The 47th Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Mekong Tourism Office via video, with the participation of representatives of the Greater Mekong Subregion, representatives of the Asian Development Bank and stakeholders, attained the following results:
- GMS member countries support Cambodia in hosting the Mekong Destination Initiative, a program in the form of a public-private partnership to promote the potential of Mekong tourism, strengthening regional cooperation with the private sector, and as a form of advice on the development of tourism in the region as well.
- GMS member countries have expressed a willingness to attract vaccinated tourists in their respective tourism rehabilitation plans. In that, Cambodia presented the main strategies of the roadmap on the restoration of Cambodia’s tourism sector in the period of Covid-19 2021-2025 and plans to open vaccination packages during the fourth quarter of 2021 to increase confidence in Cambodia’s tourism destinations.
- The meeting agreed on the draft Mekong Tourism Communication Recovery Plan, which aims to promote the construction of the right Mekong tourism content, select the right channels and promote the main tourist destinations.
- The meeting praised the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for environmental infrastructure development projects in tourism in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Cambodia also mentioned efforts to promote the implementation of coastal tourism infrastructure construction projects, the implementation of ASEAN tourism standards and the strengthening of tourism management capacity for Cambodia’s coastal areas.
- The meeting agreed on the date of the 48th GMS Tourism Working Group Meeting, which Thailand is scheduled to host during September 2021, and approved the final draft of the new CEO selection criteria.
