Cambodia: Customs revenue up 25.5 percent in H1

The General Department of Customs and Excise earned $1.4 billion in revenue during the first half of 2019, up 25.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

By June, GDCE had collected 65 percent of its target for the whole year, according to the latest report issued by the agency.

The main revenue sources were imports of vehicles and machinery (52 percent of total revenue), petroleum and energy (17.1 percent), and multi-goods and building materials (29.5 percent).

Compared to 2018, revenue from tariffs increased by 33.8 percent, from specific tax by 31.1 percent, and from value-added tax (VAT) by 28.6 percent.

Speaking during a meeting on Wednesday to review GDCE’s performance, Aun Pornmoniroth, the Minister of Economy and Finance, urged officials to serve the public with efficiency and transparency.

“GDCE officials have to continue exercising good governance, professionalism, and ethics,” the minister said. “They have to continue implementing the government’s reform agenda and serving the public with transparency, accountability, and efficiency.”

Cambodia earned $1.5 billion from tax collection in the first six months of the year, a 25 percent increase.
