Cambodia: Car rental giant enters local market
The US car rental giant Hertz has entered the Cambodian market via a partnership with City Link Transportation (Cambodia).
A report in TTG Asia this week said Hertz Asia has named City Link Transportation (Cambodia) as its franchise partner.
City Link Transportation (Cambodia) is among the leading transportation and car rental companies in the Kingdom. In addition to its car rental business, the Cambodian company also connects Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Bangkok (Thailand) via a modern bus service.
Under the agreement between the two entities, City Link Transportation (Cambodia) will be allowed to operate four Hertz brands, namely Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly.
The Hertz Chauffeur Drive service for airport transfers and business travellers are also part of the deal, according to the TTG Asia report.
Eoin Macneill, Hertz vice-president for Asia Pacific, said that this is the first time Hertz has awarded all four brands to a single franchisee in Asia. “This shows that we’re confident City Link has the expertise to deliver a range of mobility solutions with the great service that our customers have come to expect,” he stressed.
Hertz, according to the TTG Asia report, is banking on the increasing number of tourists coming to Cambodia.
Cambodia has among the fastest growing tourism industries in Southeast Asia. The Kingdom is targeting 15 million foreign arrivals by 2030.
“As travellers become more aware of Cambodia and all the self-drive opportunities available, Hertz can help people discover the beauty of the country through a range of car rental services. We are excited about the Hertz and City Link partnership and believe there is a great future for us here with our new franchisee partner in Cambodia,” Mr Macneill said in the TTG Asia report.
This new development comes after Hertz Asia appointed the British holiday company Discover the World as its general sales agent for Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
Hertz is among the largest car rental companies in the world, with more than 10,000 corporate and franchisee locations internationally. The company has a presence in more than 150 countries worldwide.
